Scott Credit Union to sponsor Shrine events

EDWARDSVILLE, IL (November 17, 2016) — Scott Credit Union recently presented a $5,000 check to representatives from The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows to sponsor several events at the local Shrine. Scott Credit Union will sponsor the annual Girls Day Out and the Tails, Trails & Twinkles event held during this year’s Way of Lights.

The annual Way of Lights will be held Friday, Nov 18 through Saturday, Dec 31. The event is a unique celebration of Christmas featuring a drive-thru light display, with over 1.1 million lights, tree & wreath displays, a children’s craft area and a life size Lego nativity scene. The admission to Way of Lights is free.

The Shrine’s Girls Day Out will be held on Nov. 19 and will feature holiday shopping, a chance auction and more. The event will be held in the Visitors & Conference Center at the Shrine.

The Tails, Trails, and Twinkles event on Dec 4 will feature a walk through the Way of Lights for area residents and their dogs as well as a “barket” market featuring local pet-friendly vendors. The walk will start at the Our Lady of the Snows Church parking lot and will culminate at the Lourdes Grotto where clergy will be on hand to bless the dogs.

Scott Credit Union will have a tent at the event and will provide participants with bottled water and doggy biscuits. SCU’s Big Barker’s Kids Club mascot, “Scotty” also will be on hand to lead the walk.

Scott Credit Union Community Relations Representative Cassidy Beck presented the sponsorship check recently to Shrine Marketing Director and Guest Operations Director Chris Diel and Events & Sponsorship Coordinator Heather Carter.

Scott Credit Union has made giving back to its communities a major priority. The local credit union contributed about $370,000 and its employees volunteered over 2,400 hours to a variety of local civic efforts throughout the region in 2015.

“We realize that without our members and the communities in which we serve, we would not exist as a financial alternative,” Beck noted. “Supporting our communities is very important to us.”

The credit union has increased its community involvement in the past few years while also increasing its efforts to educate consumers of the value of doing their financial business with a not-for-profit credit union.

“We really want people in the area to know more about the value of doing business with a credit union,” she added. “That is why we have really focused our time on educating area residents about Scott Credit Union. One of the big ways we’ve done that is through our community involvement.”

Scott Credit Union is open to anyone who lives or works in a 17 county area, including Madison, St. Clair, Monroe, Randolph, Perry, Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Clinton, Marion, Bond, Macoupin, Montgomery, Fayette, Effingham, Williamson, and Jackson counties.
