This year’s winner of the iVIE SDCCU Redeye competition, Mission Middle School of the Escondido Union School District, was recognized at the festival and awards, held at the Coronado Performing Arts Theater at Coronado High School on April 23. Their winning commercial, titled “Big Bank Bully,” is slated to air on NBC 7 San Diego on the following dates at the approximate times:

In addition, each team member of the winning team was awarded $500. The iVIE SDCCU Redeye competition was held in February and featured seven student teams from San Diego County schools tasked with creating a SDCCU commercial in just one weekend.
“The talent and creativity showed in this year’s iVIE SDCCU Redeye entries were impressive,” said Teresa Halleck, President and CEO of SDCCU. “We are pleased to once again support the efforts of the San Diego County Office of Education to promote technology and innovation in the classroom by presenting the iVIE Student Film Festival and Awards. As SDCCU continues to lead the way in delivering breakthrough banking products and services, we understand the importance of encouraging creativity and innovation among future generations.”
The festival and awards drew over 1,200 students, parents, teachers and supporters and more than 400 videos were submitted. SDCCU provided a $500 prize to the Grand Recognition winner in each age group. Select videos will air on ITV/Channel 16 in San Diego.
The main purpose of iVIE is to encourage students to utilize video production as a project-based learning tool. Since 2001, iVIE has grown into a major video competition with hundreds of video submissions each year that are judged by media professionals and educators. Entries are submitted in a variety of categories ranging from math, science and language arts, to documentary and public service announcements. Categories include all grade levels (elementary to high school) and in every curriculum area, from math to broadcast journalism. For more event information, visit ivieawards.org.
