SDCCU supports Mental Health Awareness Month and the Live Well San Diego Trails Challenge

Trails Challenge encourages the community to get physically active to reduce stress and improve mental health

SAN DIEGO, CA (May 4, 2021)San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is proud to support the Live Well San Diego Trails Challenge in partnership with the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation as part of Mental Health Awareness Month. The Trails Challenge, encourages the community to get physically active and enjoy the incredible healing powers nature offers for our mind and body.

The Trails Challenge activities consist of ranger-led, socially distanced hikes each Saturday in May. Weekly hikes vary in difficulty and aim to help participants build up to the final Warrior Hike of El Capitan which celebrates the physical and mental stamina of active duty and retired military personnel and is often referred to as the toughest hike in San Diego. For more information and to view the hike schedule, visit livewellsd.org.

“We are pleased to support the County of San Diego and Live Well San Diego through our support of the Trails Challenge during Mental Health Awareness Month,” said Teresa Campbell, SDCCU president and CEO. “There is a correlation between physical, mental and financial health, and we encourage members of the community to get outside and experience the beauty of nature safely to help reduce stress.”

As one of California’s largest locally-owned financial institution and a Live Well San Diego partner, SDCCU is dedicated to improving overall economic well-being by engaging in several financial wellness efforts. Research shows that poor financial health can often lead to diminished physical health, and that financial stress can significantly affect mental health. Over the past year, many have experienced financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which may add additional physical or mental stress as well. SDCCU is committed to helping improve the lives of those in our communities through a variety of financial resources including Financial Wellness Webinars and blogs on a variety of topics aimed at improving financial health. Financial Wellness Wednesdays webinar topics rotate weekly. The current schedule is located at sdccu.com/fww. For access to financial wellness resources, visit sdccu.com/knowledge.

The County Board of Supervisors launched Live Well San Diego in 2010 with the goal of achieving healthy, safe and thriving communities across the region by partnering with community and city leaders, schools, businesses, non-profit organizations and residents. SDCCU was the first financial institution to be designated a Live Well San Diego partner due to its many efforts to create a healthy, safe and thriving San Diego County.
