Sean Doheny named Affinity Plus’ first Digital Branch Manager
ST PAUL, MN (July 7, 2016) — Sean Doheny has been named Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union’s first Digital Branch Manager.
Doheny, who joined Affinity Plus in 2013, said the new Digital Branch brings under one umbrella Affinity Plus’ numerous “virtual” technology services to members. As Digital Branch Manager, he will focus on members’ interactions with this channel, which includes Affinity Plus’s online and mobile banking, online chat and more.
“Digital services are a fast-growing area for credit unions and banking in general. Our members are choosing to bank with us using their computers, tablets and smartphones – wherever they are,” he said.
That usage is in line with what’s happening nationally, he noted. The United States Federal Reserve outlined in a 2015 report the move toward virtual banking, including that 52 percent of smartphone owners with a bank account use it for some form of banking.
“Our challenge is to continue to create a safe, secure digital experience that still feels like Affinity Plus,” Doheny said. “We want to ensure that our members always feel cared for, even when their interaction isn’t face to face at one of our physical branches.”
Affinity Plus Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer Brian Volkmann said Doheny’s new position is the first step toward the formal creation of a Digital Services channel, which will include a new Vice President of Digital Services. These leaders will work together to build out this channel, create structure and develop strategy.
“As members’ expectations continually evolve, we knew we needed to create a specific focus on Digital Services to deliver exceptional experience, while bringing new and innovative tools and products to our members,” Volkmann said.
BACKGROUND
Before accepting his new role, Doheny was a Senior Investor Relations Specialist for more than three years. In that role, he oversaw a 2015 home-mortgage refinance campaign that saved Affinity Plus members nearly $3 million in interest in less than five months.
“We worked to find and create mortgage products that would best serve our members and save them time and money. In a similar way, our new Digital Branch will be at the forefront of offering our members savings in time and money,” he said.
Doheny, from Lakeland, Minn., currently is pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business.
