Second annual Marine Credit Union Foundation golf outing raises more than $60,000
Funds will support charitable causes and advance financial literacy in our communities
LA CROSSE, WI (August 8, 2016) — The second annual Marine Credit Union (MCU) Foundation Golf Outing raised more than $60,000 for charitable causes and financial literacy initiatives in our community. More than 140 golfers participated at the Golf Course at Cedar Creek Country Club in Onalaska, Wis. The event was supported by almost 30 company sponsorships, including major event sponsors MOKA, Fowler and Hammer and Staples.
Since it began in January 2014, the Marine Credit Union Foundation has distributed over $275,000 to more than 200 charitable causes in the communities served by Marine Credit Union’s 24 branch locations across Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
Three in four Marine employees contribute to the Foundation through an automatic payroll deduction. Marine employees are on pace to donate over $60,000 by the end of 2016. The credit union matches each employee donation, for every dollar an individual donates, Marine donates two.
“Our employees are incredibly dedicated to the betterment of their communities, both through the volunteer hours and the dollars they give,” said Shawn Hanson, CEO. “By investing a dollar in the MCU Foundation, which Marine matches 2:1, employees triple their giving power to the causes that matter most to them.”
In addition, members of the credit union are on pace to contribute $58,000 by the end of the year. Thousands of new members have donated $5 to the Foundation with an account opening at Marine. Existing members gave more than $26,000 during the Foundation Annual Drive in April of this year.
In addition to funding charitable causes in the communities Marine serves, the company also plans to commit a portion of the monies raised by the Foundation toward increasing financial literacy, transportation and housing access for low-income individuals.
