ST. PAUL, MN (December 10, 2013) -- Securian Financial Group became the first group life insurer to launch a mobile optimized website to provide participants access to online self-service functions. This service, launched last year, enables employees of Securian’s large employer clients to use their mobile devices to manage their group life insurance from the palms of their hands.
This year, Securian, which offers group life insurance through Minnesota Life Insurance Company, expanded that site to offer clients’ employees the ability to submit evidence of insurability (EOI) directly from their smart phones.
“EOI submission from our clients who self administer their employee benefits programs makes up the majority of the transactions submitted online,” said Adam Taylor, manager, Group Insurance Client Technology,
Securian Financial Group. “It was a logical next step to make it possible for them to submit EOI from our mobile site.”
Securian has long led the group life insurance industry in providing technology that gives employees the ability to conveniently manage their group life insurance benefits themselves. Minnesota Life Group Insurance
was the first to offer online EOI submission ten years ago.
The mobile EOI submission option has been in constant use since it was launched in August and was able to offer a higher level of service during enrollment season. Taylor says the company is evaluating expansion of its mobile group life offerings to include other transactions such as beneficiary management. Securian is working with Usablenet, a technology firm whose specialty is transforming websites into next generation mobile sites.
