Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $2,500 to CASA of Hidalgo County

SAN ANTONIO, TX (June 21, 2016) — The Security Service Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce a $2,500 donation to the Children’s Fund of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Hidalgo County. CASA provides court-appointed volunteers who serve as advocates for abused and neglected children involved in legal proceedings in court.

“These young children are often whisked away from their homes for safety’s sake, and often don’t have the basic necessities for day to day life,” said Edna Garcia, Assistant Vice President of Member Service – South Texas for Security Service Federal Credit Union.  “We are pleased to be able to support CASA in their efforts to provide clothing, shoes and other items for children in their care.”

There is a tremendous need for community support for these children. Last year, CASA says there were more than 6,100 investigations of abuse and neglect in Hidalgo County, and CASA advocates and case managers were assigned to 85% of these cases by the Child Protection Court. In addition, the organization works with approximately 200 children in foster care who were removed from their families and placed with foster families throughout the state.

“While our Fund’s primary focus is on basic necessities, we can also support the children in their various activities,” said Diana Almaguer, executive director for CASA of Hidalgo County. “Our goal is to help these children have as normal a life as possible under difficult circumstances, and Security Service’s support is so helpful in achieving this goal.”
