Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $2,500 to Daisycares

Donation to provide 25,000 pounds of food for pets of low-income families

SAN ANTONIO, TX (February 5, 2020) — The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping animals and their owners remain together. The Foundation donated $2,500 to DaisyCares, a non-profit organization whose promise is to save pets’ lives, and keep pets with their family, primarily through the DaisyCares Pet Food program. The donation will supply 25,000 pounds of food, enough to feed 4,167 animals.

“Pets provide us with a multitude of benefits, both physical and emotional,” said Maria Alvarado, PAWedu program manager for DaisyCares. “When you’re experiencing a financial hardship, you need your furry friend by your side for love and support. This generous donation is helping pets and their owners get through a rough time and continue to live happily together.”

DaisyCares was launched in 2009 in honor of a beloved yorkie, Daisy. It was created to give back the gift of life that Daisy received, and to provide hope to all needy pets. DaisyCares relies entirely on donations and self-generated revenue to operate.

“DaisyCares is an important service for families throughout South Texas. The reality is when families struggle to have enough food for their children and themselves, they often have to surrender their pets because they can no longer feed or care for them,” explains Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “Many of these families are military families and the working poor, people who work full-time, but barely make enough to provide meals for their families.”

Not only does DaisyCares provide food for animals in need, the organization also works to reduce animal abuse through public education, awareness and volunteer opportunities.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
