Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $5,000 to Denver Children’s Home

Donation will be used to renovate sensory rooms

SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 15, 2019) — The Security Service Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation is helping Denver Children’s Home (DCH) renovate four sensory rooms by providing a $5,000 donation. DCH sensory rooms are specially designed therapeutic spaces used to promote self-organization and positive change for children, families and veterans.

“At Denver Children’s Home, we work to restore hope and health to traumatized children and families through a comprehensive array of therapeutic, educational, and community-based services,” said Rebecca Hea, executive director for Denver Children’s Home. “These sensory rooms are an immensely useful resource for children who have been through a lot. We’re grateful to Security Service for making this renovation possible.”

Children at DCH have varying sensory needs. Some prefer low-sensory environments that are calm and quiet, while others need intense sensory stimulation through weights, activity, and noise. Room themes will be relaxation and regulation, calming weighted regulation, LEGO, and deep physical for children seeking sensory input.

“Denver Children’s Home has been a phenomenal resource for the people of Colorado for generations,” said Derrick Aguilar, senior vice president of member service – Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We are honored to partner with them in making their sensory rooms the absolute best they can be to meet the needs of children in their care.”

DCH provides a comprehensive therapeutic and educational continuum of care for the region’s abused, neglected, and traumatized children and their families. They serve over 1,000 people annually by providing prevention, intervention, and treatment programs grounded in trauma-informed care and the latest in brain-development research.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
