Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $5,000 to Golfers Fore Others to fund home repairs for neighbors in need

Donation to fund home repairs for two families in the Boerne area

SAN ANTONIO, TX (July 17, 2018) — The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping families with some much needed home repairs through a $5,000 donation to Golfers Fore Others (GFO), a group of retired volunteers who provide free home repairs to needy families in the Boerne area.

“Golfers Fore Others is only able to help our neighbors in need because of donations like this one from the Security Service Charitable Foundation,” said Fred Martin, founder of Golfers Fore Others.  “Their support and generosity allows us to be the hands and feet that make positive changes one household at a time.”

GFO was established 17 years ago by Martin who as a golfer realized he had some free time on Mondays when the courses are typically closed.  Martin decided to use that time to round up other retired golfers and make a difference in the lives of others by providing free home repairs for low income families.  They have since touched the lives of over 700 people, completing more than 400 projects such as painting houses, repairing doors, replacing faucets, replacing windows, renovating bathrooms, installing wheelchair ramps, putting in new flooring, trimming trees, and providing new appliances.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, there are families living in our neighborhoods who have found themselves in a position where they are unable to make necessary repairs on their homes,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union.  “It’s organizations like Golfers Fore Others who are stepping up to help neighbors in need and Security Service is honored to contribute to their efforts.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas that better the community and help to improve the quality of life.
