Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $5,500 to the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation

Funds will purchase heart monitors for children impacted by concussions

SAN ANTONIO, TX (February 14, 2019) — The Security Service Charitable Foundation has presented the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation with $5,500 to purchase 50 portable heart rate monitors for patients with concussions. By monitoring patients post-concussion, doctors are able to determine the amount of exercise they can safely endure following the diagnosis.

Since 1908, Children’s Hospital Colorado has been caring for kids at all ages and stages of life. They see more, treat more and heal more children than any hospital in their seven-state region. The Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation improves the health of children through the provision of high-quality, coordinated programs of patient care, education, research and advocacy.

“This donation will allow the hospital to purchase reusable heart rate monitors which will ultimately help thousands of children who have suffered a concussion,” said Derrick Aguilar, senior vice president of member service – Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union.

“Recent evidence indicates aerobic exercise is beneficial for youth athletes who have sustained a concussion,” said Jennifer Roe Darling, president and CEO for the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation. “By giving youth athletes a heart rate monitor to track their physical activity and exercise patterns after a concussion, they will be able to provide improved, evidence-based treatment recommendations.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
