Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $6,300 to The Children’s Shelter

Donation to purchase equipment for dental exams

The Security Service Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation is helping The Children’s Shelter provide dental exams to children in its emergency shelter and foster care homes. The $6,300 donation will be used to purchase a dental x-ray machine for use at the on-sight dental clinic at The Children’s Shelter.

“Providing thorough dental exams is an important aspect in caring for children, and being able to provide these exams is a necessity,” said Annette Rodriguez, president and CEO for The Children’s Shelter. “The Security Service Charitable Foundation donation is not just allowing us to purchase a new dental x-ray machine; it is allowing us to provide restorative services for children in need.”

In 2018, The Children’s Shelter was able to administer dental exams to 634 youth. For many children, this was the first dental exam they have received.

“As a board member for The Children’s Shelter, I’ve seen the caliber of support and services they consistently provide to children in the San Antonio community,” said Matt Proffitt, vice president of title services for Security Service Title Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Security Service Federal Credit Union. “By providing this equipment, we are ensuring the shelter has the right tools to provide services for the children in their care.”

Founded in 1901, The Children's Shelter is a nationally accredited nonprofit organization in San Antonio. They serve more than 5,100 children and families each year, working to break the cycle of neglect and abuse through education and prevention. They accomplish this by using evidence-based prevention and intervention practices designed to significantly impact children, families, and in turn, the community.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
