Security Service Charitable Foundation donation to help students at risk of dropping out.

$5,000 donation to provide much-needed resources

SAN ANTONIO, TX (December 11, 2015) — In support of creative education for challenged teens, The Security Service Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation has donated $5,000 to the Academy of Creative Education (ACE).  This innovative, nationally recognized school is part of the North East Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas. The funds, donated through the Academy Advisory Corporate Council, will be used to provide access to program development resources for students at risk of dropping out.

“It’s important for the success of these students to customize a curriculum to meet their specific needs,” said Mike Ward, vice president of core systems and security at Security Service and board chair of ACE. “We know it works – ACE has a 98 percent completion rate and has graduated more than 4,000 students since opening its doors in 1991.”

The Academy is the collaborative result of a design team composed of educators and community representatives where students in at-risk situations are provided a unique environment in which to learn.  In addition, instructors use innovative teaching models and teaching strategies to keep them in school, focused on graduating and the bright future ahead.

ACE teacher and former student Faryn Ptasnik attests to the success of the Academy’s unique learning environment, “ACE gave me the second chance I needed to finish strong and get my high school diploma.”

“We are proud to support these outstanding students in becoming the thinkers, problem solvers and leaders of tomorrow,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union.  “We are honored to support the Academy Advisory Council as it works to provide young people with positive adult role models and mentors – a critical part of the success of the students.”
