ARLINGTON, TEXAS (July 11, 2023) — The Texas Trust Gives Foundation has awarded more than $75,000 in educational grants to seven school districts in North and Northeast Texas. The grants range from $6,300 to more than $13,000.
Each year the Texas Trust Gives Foundation solicits grant applications from school districts in its membership area. Districts receiving grants this year are Arlington, Athens, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Grand Prairie, Lewisville, and Mansfield.
Grants were provided for teaching tools and “reality fair” kits for financial education, backpacks and school supplies to help economically disadvantaged students, band supplies and equipment, and new books for Pre-K children.
Mansfield ISD received $13,300 to fund a financial reality fair for high school students, as well as purchase nearly 500 pairs of new shoes for students, which will be given out during their annual Back to School Bash
Grand Prairie ISD received $13,000 for its Texas Trust Literacy Legacy project, which aims to kick off the learning journey of every Pre-K student in the district with a new book.
Arlington ISD received $12,800 to supply over 700 students with new backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming school year.
Lewisville ISD received $8,600 to help fund specific initiatives related to the district’s Junior Leadership Flower Mound program, as well as the purchase of 86 new jackets for Lewisville High School band members to wear during cold weather outdoor competitions and performances.
Athens ISD received $6,380 to provide year-round take-home food kits for students in need. The district will purchase the food from the East Texas Food Bank then distribute it to students through the school’s Backpack food program.
Cedar Hill ISD and DeSoto ISD received grants to fund materials for a new financial education curriculum for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
“The grants we receive from the Texas Trust Gives Foundation are instrumental in enhancing the learning experience we are able to offer our students,” said Alicia Davis, Director of Family and Community Engagement for Cedar Hill ISD. “This year’s grant will be used as part of our ‘Skills to Pay the Bills’ event, which helps our eighth grade students learn about career paths and technical education so they can begin to plan for their high school courses.”
“Grants are made possible through the generous funding from Texas Trust Credit Union,” said Washima Huq, Executive Director of the Texas Trust Gives Foundation. “We are proud to be able to help the schools with extra funding that allows them to do more for students both in and outside the classroom.”
The Texas Trust Gives Foundation issues grants annually to school districts within Texas Trust Credit Union’s service area. Applications for the next grant cycle will open in spring 2024.
