Seven small credit unions receive grant to support credit union diversity and financial health
MADISON, WI (December 6, 2021) — The National Credit Union Foundation (the Foundation) has today announced the recipients of a $100,000 grant to support smaller credit unions seeking to understand the roles culture, race and ethnicity play in financial well-being.
The credit unions are:
- Canopy Credit Union, Spokane, WA ($198M assets)
- Central Willamette Credit Union, Albany, OR ($410M assets)
- Consolidated Community Credit Union, Portland, OR ($417M assets)
- Education Credit Union, Amarillo, TX ($330M assets)
- Heartland Credit Union, Hutchinson, KS ($390M assets)
- Tarrant County’s Credit Union, Tarrant County, TX ($106M assets)
- Wauna Credit Union, Clatskanie, OR ($319M assets)
Credit unions composed of 10 or more employees with assets between $100 million and $600 million were eligible to apply for the grant.
“The first step of improving people’s financial lives is understanding the demographics of your field of membership and members’ financial health,” said Gigi Hyland, executive director of the Foundation. “This grants opportunity allows our grant recipients the opportunity to use state of the art tools – Coopera’s Hispanic Opportunity Navigator and Attune’s financial health measurement platform – to gain insights that will inform planning and strategy and ultimately service and improvement of member financial health.”
The grant allocations will provide each credit union with access to industry-leading programs, data analysis and consultation provided by Attune and Coopera, two organizations leading the charge for multicultural inclusion and financial health.
Grantees will be able to use two of Coopera’s inclusion tools: the Ethnicity Segmentation Analysis to track membership demographics, and the Hispanic Opportunity Navigator, which assesses a credit union’s readiness to serve Latinx communities and provides a roadmap to success.
In addition, the recipients can partner with Attune, part of the Financial Health Network, to measure employee and member financial health and receive data-driven insights to steer strategic planning and product development.
