Shared Branching expands Ascentra Services to over 5,000 locations nationwide

Ascentra Honored as 500th Branch in Regional Network of Branches

BETTENDORF, IA (December 12, 2014) -- With access to over 5,000 locations, Ascentra Credit Union has joined forces with other credit unions in states from New York to Washington, Florida to California, who are offering members more convenience by sharing locations. Shared branching is a national network of credit unions that have opened their branches to members of other credit unions.  Members can walk in and do their banking just like they would at their own credit union.

“Ascentra knows the importance of adding convenience for our members and future members and shared branching is one way we can be there for those traveling, college students who move away, and snowbirds,” Ascentra President & CEO Dale Owen said.

Ascentra’s gateway to shared branching is through CU Service Network (CUSN) which is a network of seven states that help make up the nation-wide shared branching network.  Recently Ascentra was honored as the 500th shared branch of CUSN at a presentation that brought in representatives from the Iowa Credit Union League.

“To be the 500th shared branch of CUSN is an important milestone for Ascentra which speaks to the cooperative spirit of the credit union movement,” Dale Owen said.  “Together all shared branching credit unions now have a footprint as prominent as the largest banks in the country.”

Shared branching in Iowa has grown exponentially in the past two years.  By the end of the year, Iowa will have a 75 percent increase in shared branch locations.  Iowa is shaping the national landscape for the credit union movement, and Ascentra plays a valuable part in it.

People can find out more about shared branching at Ascentra.org and find a link to the CO-OP Shared Branch Locator that allows people to find shared branches nationwide.  People can also find a shared branch with the CO-OP Shared Branch App on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android.
