Sikorsky Credit Union awards $5,000 in scholarships

Five students get a head start for college

STRATFORD, CT (June 26, 2018) — Sikorsky Credit Union recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to five high school seniors who are headed to college in the fall of 2018.  Through the Thomas J. Williams scholarship program, Sikorsky Credit Union annually awards five scholarships to students who use the money toward college expenses such as tuition, books or other school materials.

To be considered, students wrote essays describing a money lesson learned in high school that will help them as they begin college.  Nearly 75 graduating seniors submitted essays, which were reviewed by a committee. The committee then selected the top five essay writers as this year’s scholarship recipients.

This year’s winners are Michael Arther of Sandy Hook, Emily Darroch of Oxford, Matthew Dowd of West Haven, Mikhaila Eller of Stratford, and Collen Mocker of Trumbull.

“Sikorsky Credit Union is deeply committed to financial literacy through many of our programs that take place during the school year,’ noted President and Chief Executive Officer Vincent Ciambriello.  ‘This year’s scholarship winners all wrote about the financial literacy lessons they have learned and will share with others.  We are thrilled to give these students a solid head start as they begin their college education.”

Sikorsky Credit Union annually awards scholarships, and named the program after Thomas J. Williams, longtime CEO of the Credit Union, who passed away in 2015.
