York, PA- Sixty French students, part of a 10-day community exchange program here in York County, stopped by First Capital Federal Credit Union’s South York office for a Green Tour on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Having studied green technologies in France, the students were interested in seeing how Americans use the same technology. Four tour guides took groups of 15 students around the building and grounds, pointing out various features including the special parking spaces for fuel-efficient vehicles, decorative bike racks, geothermal wells and the rainwater capture system. The students asked a lot of questions and were fascinated by things like; to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)® points, ‘regional’ materials must come from within 500 miles. Regional for us may be a few states, but for them, 500 miles covers most of France. First Capital hopes to receive the LEED Gold Certification in the next few months.
