Five San Antonio High School students to receive scholarships for college

SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 8, 2024) — Soarion Credit Union has named five local high school students as recipients of its 2024 scholarship program. Each student will receive $5,000 to be used for college costs including dorm expenses, tuition and fees, computers, and other supplies.

The 2024 Soarion Credit Union Scholarship Program recipients are:

  • Scarlet Graf
    Sandra Day O’Connor High School
  • Carson Krampe
The Christian School at Castle Hills
  • Sophia Pokorney
    Health Careers High School
  • Marcus Sandoval
    Sandra Day O’Connor High School
  • Ryan Sarmiento
    Antonian College Preparatory High School

“The future is in the hands of the next generation and we, as a community, must do everything we can to support them and provide them with the tools they need to be successful,” said Ryan Ross, Soarion Credit Union CEO. “My hope is that the Soarion Credit Union Scholarship Program gives these students the boost they need to dream bigger and reach higher.”

Each year, Soarion Credit Union awards five $5,000 scholarships to deserving students who are planning on attending an accredited public or private college, university, community college, or technical college. Selection is based on the applicant’s service in the community, academic performance, leadership, and financial need. Recipients must be a Soarion Credit Union member or the dependent of a member in good standing. The scholarship program was established in partnership with the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation.

“This scholarship means I have the opportunity to chase my dreams to their fullest,” said Marcus Sandoval, 2024 Soarion Credit Union Scholarship Recipient. “Being part of a family of six, money has always been a bit tight and it’s the biggest factor (in deciding) the future university I would attend. Thanks to this scholarship, I can attend Rice University without worry and pursue my dreams.”

Information and application for the 2025 Soarion Credit Union Scholarship Program will be announced later this year on www.soarion.org.
