(Duluth, MN) March 7, 2011 – In support of the upcoming deployment of 600 troops from the Duluth region, a group of local residents is asking for the community’s help in providing our local servicemen and women with good-quality, durable socks to help them comfortably complete their mission.
Socks are something that come up again and again on soldier’s wish lists,” said Hermantown resident and Socks for Soldiers project coordinator Tess Dandrea.
Community members can help by providing monetary donations of $10, which will purchase one pair of comfortable, long-lasting Fox River socks. Fox River socks are made by Fox River Mills, an American company based in Osage, Iowa. All of Fox River Mills’ quality foot and handwear products are proudly made in the U.S.A.
Donations can be dropped off at any of the five Members Cooperative Credit Union branch locations in Aitkin, Cloquet, Duluth or McGregor, and will be accepted through May 18, 2011. One hundred percent of the money raised will go toward the purchase of socks for our troops.
“It may only seem like a simple pair of socks, but to a soldier deployed far from home, it’s a message that some cares,” said Dandrea. “This is a small way to let them know we appreciate their sacrifice.”
The local troops are part of a 2,400-soldier deployment of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, in support of Operation New Dawn. This yearlong deployment is the second largest of the Minnesota National Guard since World War II. The soldiers will be stationed in Kuwait and provide base defense as well as perform route security operations.
