Spartan Federal unveils interest free first responder loans
Credit union makes $1,000 donation to Spartanburg Crime Stoppers
SPARTANBURG, S.C (May 15, 2017) — For those who work or volunteer as first responders in Spartanburg County, Spartan Federal Credit Union has a new First Responder Loan. Whether it be law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, and rescuers, Spartan is offering $500 loans with a 0% annual percentage rate.
The loans with a 12-month term may be used to cover the cost of uniforms, supplies, equipment and K-9 needs. Individuals must show proof of employment or volunteer affiliation.
First responders are often given small stipends or no money at all to cover the cost of clothing and supplies they need to do their jobs. What Spartan is offering is a one-of-a-kind solution for Spartanburg County.
“The firefighters, police officers and other first responders who keep us safe and serve us in our greatest time of need, should not go without things such as personal protection,” said Spartan CEO Isaaileen Rankin. “First responders carry a lot of responsibility on their shoulders. These are the uniformed heroes of our communities.”
The roll out of the loan program comes during National Police Week, May 14-20. In appreciation, Spartan donated $1,000 to Spartanburg Crime Stoppers, an independent organization formed in 1982 that uses donated advertising and reward money to raise awareness and fight crime.
“Nationally, we lose between 140 to 160 law enforcement offers in the line of duty. This is a time of remembrance and to celebrate our men and women in uniform,” Rankin said. “We want to thank all our police officers who leave their families to protect us in Spartanburg County.”
