Sperry volunteers prepare meal for families at the Ronald McDonald House

Team from the credit union volunteered their time to prepare dinner for families going through difficult times

GARDEN CITY PARK, NY (April 16, 2019) — With the clattering of pots and pans echoing across the kitchen, staff members from Sperry Associates Federal Credit Union (Sperry) worked to prepare dinner for 85 guests staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.

First opened in New Hyde Park in 1986, the Ronald McDonald House serves as a “home-away-from-home” for families with sick children across the region. By providing comfort and lodging to families experiencing the pain of having a sick child in area hospitals, the House provides the parents and siblings of these children with a temporary haven in a secure and comfortable environment among other families sharing a similar burden.

“As anyone who has had a sick child will tell you, alleviation of some of the daily stresses has a big impact,” Kevin J. Healy, Sperry’s Chief Executive Officer, said. “By preparing this meal, we hope we were able to make things a bit easier for those going through a difficult time. We are happy to supplement some of the incredible work that the Ronald McDonald House does on a daily basis.”

The team from Sperry lovingly prepared a multi-course meal for those staying at the House that included marinated chicken tenders, baked cheeseburger-style pasta, a fresh garden salad, and various desserts.

“We are truly grateful for the efforts of everyone from Sperry,” said Betti McClellan, the House’s Director of Volunteers and Programs. “Our families always appreciate having a home-cooked meal after a long day, and we’re lucky to have such a strong network of passionate volunteers.”
