Springfield, MO, March 3, 2011 – Postal Federal Community Credit Union announces plans to change their name by summer 2011, citing the desire to eliminate confusion about who can open an account at the credit union.

PFCCU was started in 1929 by Springfield postal workers, and then later expanded membership to include federal employees. In 1994 they were granted the ability to serve a much larger group, including everyone who lives or works in a 10-county area in Southwest Missouri.

“Our members are very loyal,” noted Steve Pierson, President and CEO of PFCCU. “Postal & Federal employees and their families have played a huge part in our growth and well-being over the last 82 years. That being said, now that our membership has been expanded, our current name creates confusion about who can open an account with us. Based on research we’ve conducted over the last few years, we learned our current name presents a barrier to people who believe they can’t use our credit union. By changing our name we want to continue to honor our heritage while also letting members of our community know they can use our services,” Pierson continued.

The credit union has hired a nationally recognized naming firm to assist in the development of a new name. They will continue all business as usual during and after the name change.

“By making the decision to change our name, we are in no way changing our philosophy or turning away from our postal and federal-based heritage,” noted David Phelps, Chairman of PFCCU’s Board. “We aren’t being sold or merged. Account holders are going to see the same great people working here, and receive the same great service they’re used to.”

PFCCU has already begun working with the agency and expects to announce the new name this summer, followed by a rebranding of the credit union.
