Steve Stapp elected Chair of World Council of Credit Unions Board of Directors
PORTLAND, OR (July 19, 2018) — Unitus President and CEO Steve Stapp has been elected Chair of the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) Board of Directors.
Stapp formally took office at the July 17 General Session of the World Credit Union Conference in Singapore. The World Council of Credit Unions hosted the conference in collaboration with the Singapore National Cooperative Federation. More than 1,400 delegates from 58 countries attended the conference’s opening ceremony on July 15.
“There is so much we can all learn from our credit union counterparts around the world,” said Stapp. “I’ve witnessed credit unions help communities become more vital, enabling families to save, get educated, make a living, and receive healthcare. Although I work in the United States, I seek to represent credit unions and serve people around the world. Now is the time for us to stand together and show the world the prosperity and independence that financial cooperatives bring to communities everywhere.”
Stapp had previously served as Vice Chairman/Secretary for the World Council. He assumes the role from outgoing Chair Brian McCrory. Stapp adds this position to a list of leadership roles within the World Council, including board member of the Global Women’s Leadership Network, member of the Worldwide Foundation Board of Directors, and Ex Officio Member of CUNA’s World Leadership Development Committee.
