Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union Foundation Awards $76,000 in Scholarships

TAMPA, FLA. (June 6, 2012) – Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union Foundation announces its higher education scholarship recipients for 2012. Throughout the communities served by the credit union, the Foundation has provided need and merit-based scholarships for 20 years to graduating high school seniors planning to attend an accredited institution in Florida.

Eight hundred and fifty-two students submitted applications within the 15 counties served by the credit union. The scholarships included a $10,000 renewable scholarship to a senior attending a four-year university, a $10,000 per year scholarship to a senior for two years, two $6,000 scholarships to seniors attending a two-year college and a $4,000 scholarship to a senior attending a vocational or technical program.

“The Foundation is honored to provide academic scholarships that support the future successes of these young adults who will go on to make a positive impact in our local communities,” says Mary Tlachac, executive director of Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union Foundation.

Scholarship recipients for 2012 include:

$10,000 scholarship renewable for four years:

  • Emily Bauer, Sunlake High School in Pasco County

$10,000 scholarship per year for two years:

  • Meghan Graham, Hardee High School in Hardee County

$6,000 scholarship renewable for two years:

  • Tiffani Spicer, Hudson High School in Pasco County
  • Chloe Miller, Wesley Chapel High School in Pasco County

$4,000 scholarship for a vocational or technical program:

  • Elexsis Silva, Palmetto High School in Manatee County                          

Since 1992, the Foundation has donated more than $7 million to various children’s charities and has awarded nearly $750,000 in scholarships. The Foundation is sponsored entirely by Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union, allowing 100 percent of funds contributed to go directly to the organizations and initiatives that assist children in the communities the credit union serves.
