Superintendent Speaks at Grand Opening of First High School Student Branch for Patriot Federal Credit Union

September 27, 2011 – Chambersburg, PA   To honor the opening of the first high school branch in Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Patriot Federal Credit Union held a grand opening celebration highlighting the commitment of several partners.  A ribbon cutting ceremony followed remarks by Dr. Joseph Padasak, Superintendent of Chambersburg Area School District, as well as representatives from Patriot and State Farm Insurance.

“This is a first for the high school and the community, which shows Patriot’s commitment to the financial education of our youth,” commented the John Boozer, Patriot Federal Credit Union’s Chairman of the Board.

Added Michael Silvers, Patriot‘s Chief Operating Officer, “Our desire is to help students with their financial goals and prepare them with an understanding of money management. We want to make a difference in the lives of these students so that they can share in the American Dream.”

The student branch was initially made possible by $29,143 in grant funding provided by the State Farm® Youth Advisory Board.  The Youth Advisory Board is a diverse group of 30 youth who lead and oversee a $5 million budget each year to fund youth-led service-learning programs, like the CASHS student branch run by Patriot. 

“It is wonderful to see this project come to fruition, as it will provide a great avenue for students to take what they are learning in the classroom to gain real-life experience and address an important need in our community,” said Chambersburg State Farm Agent, Tracy Rush.  “State Farm supports education and I am proud of the commitment that State Farm has made to this project and our community.” 

Several members of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School business faculty, community leaders, as well as board members and staff of Patriot were also in attendance.

The Student Branch is open for business five days a week with students employed to run the branch with a Patriot manager. In addition to the Student Branch, an ATM is located inside the entry to the gymnasium for more convenience. The concept allows for students, teachers and staff to conduct transactions while student workers gain work experience.  Patriot will be providing financial education to teachers and students through workshops and classroom presentations.
