COLUMBUS, OH (May 31, 2016) — Retired CEO of Unity Catholic Federal Credit Union, Tamlyn Straight Schervish, was recognized for her lifetime dedication to credit unions and her efforts to always adhere to the philosophy of “people helping people.” Tam was named Director of Emeritus by the Ohio Credit Union League, a state trade association, in a presentation on April 19, 2016 at the Hilton Columbus Downtown. This esteemed award recognizes former League Directors who have selflessly given time, effort, and talent to support and promote the credit union idea and foster the betterment of the Credit Union Movement in Ohio.
Tam has worked and volunteered in the credit union industry for all of her adult life and even some of her childhood. A self-proclaimed “Credit Union Brat”, she remembers spending afternoons helping her father stuff envelopes at the Parma School Employees Credit Union, which he founded.
Peers and members associated with the credit union industry speak highly of Tam’s leadership and mentoring skills. Stan Barnes, the CEO of CSE Federal Credit Union and Chair of the Ohio Credit Union League Board of Directors praised her as a “generous mentor and leader over four decades.” Another colleague, Robin Thomas, CEO of Taleris Credit Union, said of her, “[she] really deserves this, she has been a great mentor to so many.”
While enjoying her retirement, Tam looks forward to continuing her involvement in the credit union movement, and has often joked, “I miss the people, but not the work.”
