Tarrant County’s Credit Union gives back

FORT WORTH, TX (May 2, 2016) — Tarrant County’s Credit Union partnered up with First Class American Credit Union to give back to Presbyterian Night Shelter during the month of March.

Both Tarrant County’s Credit Union and First Class American Credit Union joined together to collect toiletries, socks and blankets for the Presbyterian Night Shelter. The shelter distributes the items to the shelter residents in various ways; some of the items are earned by residents for attending financial education workshops, or job-related classes, and other items are simply distributed based on need.

“I toured the Presbyterian Night Shelter in January of 2016 where I met the CEO, Toby Owen. He was giving a tour for the Credit Union Development Educators class. Mr. Owen explained that if you’re in need of a place to stay, they will find room for you,” said TCCU’s Business Development Coordinator Melissa Burleson.

The Presbyterian Night Shelter is open to all ages and assists those in need of shelter. The shelter serves 3 meals a day, provides counseling and tools to help residents get back on their feet and function successfully in society. The Presbyterian Night does not have a time limitation for residents; they may stay as long as they wish.

“My team and the staff of First Class American Credit Union worked together with a focus on providing warmth and comfort to local shelter residents by collecting and donating all of these items. It’s very humbling to see people come together to aid others who are less fortunate” said, TCCU’s CEO Lily Newfarmer.

Tarrant County’s Credit Union is committed in giving back to the local community in an ongoing effort to make a difference. Partnering with the Presbyterian Night Shelter and other need-based organizations in the community is an important part of their culture.
