Teachers Credit Union is equipping local students with financial responsibility skills
Organization’s Financial Empowerment Program being utilized in 80 schools this year
SOUTH BEND, IN (August 23, 2016) — More than 100 teachers at 80 schools have signed up to offer Teacher Credit Union’s (TCU) Financial Empowerment Program powered by FoolProof, an interactive, online curriculum teaching financial responsibility and the realities of the free enterprise system.
The TCU Financial Empowerment Program is a free, web-driven financial literacy program developed by teachers and personal finance experts. It uses peer-to-peer teaching and interactive videos to keep students engaged and equip them with the critical thinking skills they will need to make a lifetime of smart financial decisions. Teachers can sign up anytime to begin offering this program to their students, regardless of the school’s calendar year.
“At TCU, we are committed to providing young adults the tools, knowledge and resources they need to prepare for their financial future,” said Paul Marsh, president and CEO of TCU. “We feel fortunate to be able to partner with FoolProof to offer this free resource to educators not only in the communities we serve, but statewide.”
TCU launched its Financial Empowerment Program in 2015 and participation has grown three fold, now reaching thousands of students. The 22 modules offered in the curriculum each contain 45 minutes of instruction on topics ranging from credit cards and credit scores to saving for college, investing and retirement.
“Knowing that we are playing a part in equipping young adults with an understanding of these critical topics at an early age is so rewarding to us. We are eager to roll out the program in more schools across the state in future years,” added Marsh.
