Teeing Off for Children’s Hospital

On Monday, July 25, 2011, 100 golfers representing 27 credit unions hit the fairways for a good cause at Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, Mass. for the 2011 Credit Union Invitational Golf Tournament. The Tournament is hosted each year by EasCorp and is the credit union community’s premier event to raise funds for Children’s Hospital Boston. This year’s Tournament raised $20,000 for Children’s, which will go to fetal cardiac research and the Joe Andruzzi Foundation to support brain cancer research. “We look forward to this event all year and are excited to have so many people join us in support of Children’s Hospital Boston,” said Jane Melchionda, president/CEO of EasCorp, and founder of Credit Unions Kids at Heart. “Children’s provides outstanding care and ground breaking research, and through Credit Unions Kids at Heart, we are proud to support this amazing facility.” Keynote speaker and patient partner parent Jim Slattery addressed the group, providing insight on the state-of-the art care Children’s Hospital provides, and the positive effect that care has made on his son Seamus’s life. Patient partner Seamus with his parents, Jim and Lisa, and siblings, Padraig and Maeve, sold lemonade during the event to raise money for Children’s Hospital Boston. In addition to the lemonade stand, the Tournament also featured other fundraising events, including the Sharp Shooter contest, where players attempted to hit their ball within a 10 foot radius of the hole; the Lucky Duck raffle, in which players tested their luck to pick the winning number for a set of Red Sox tickets; and a silent auction, featuring gift certificates, sports memorabilia, and golf gear. The Credit Unions Kids at Heart program began in 1996 with a small group of sponsors and has grown to include 37 participating credit unions. Along with the annual invitational golf tournament, credit unions sponsor runners in the Boston Marathon each spring and host a variety of fundraising projects throughout the year to benefit Children’s Hospital Boston. Over the past 15 years, the program has raised more than $3.4 million for the hospital. |

About the Credit Unions Kids at Heart Program Established in 1996 and coordinated through EasCorp, headquartered in Burlington, Mass., the Credit Unions Kids at Heart program provides funding for Children’s Hospital Boston. In 2011, 37 credit unions are program sponsors, along with a number of credit union friends, volunteers and business partners. To date Kids at Heart has raised more than $3.4 million.
