The Affinity Plus Foundation to award $75,000 in education scholarships
ST. PAUL, MN (September 24, 2015) — Fifteen years and over $600,000 later, the Affinity Plus Foundation has impacted thousands of Minnesotans through its financial education programming. Founded in September of 2000, the Foundation began with a simple scholarship program and a $1,000 grant opportunity to a nonprofit focused on financial education. This year, in celebration of its 15th Anniversary, the Affinity Plus Foundation will award fifteen $5,000 scholarships to primary members of Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union who are incoming freshmen, upperclassmen, nontraditional, and Master’s/Doctorate students. The Foundation typically awards five $5,000 scholarships annually, however the recent Board decision will allow for an even greater impact.
“What better way to celebrate 15 years of impact on individuals and communities but with an even greater opportunity,” stated Keith Malbrue, board chair. “Financial literacy and higher education are truly a need in our communities and I am honored to support this initiative to give individuals a chance to pursue their educational dreams.”
The mission of the Affinity Plus Foundation is “to enhance the quality of life in Minnesota communities through partnership in financial education, programs and support.” The Affinity Plus Foundation Scholarship application is available here. Submission due date is January 29, 2016, with winners to be announced one per day beginning March 15, 2016. Scholarship applications are evaluated on several criteria including Leadership, Community Involvement and a personal essay.
“The Affinity Plus Foundation Scholarship allowed me to continue my passion for educating others,” commented James Ewer, 2014-2015 scholarship recipient. “It has made a significant difference in my progress and I plan to pay that forward as I continue in my education profession.”
