The York Chapter of Credit Unions awards two scholarships!

On Monday, May 5, 2025, the York Chapter of Credit Unions announced the winners of its 2025 scholarship contest: Miranda Schraudner and William Plappert. Both received $1,000 to put towards their first year of schooling.

Miranda, a member of First Capital Federal Credit Union, is a senior at Northeastern High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society. Miranda has been on the distinguished honor roll all four years of high school; she is also a member of the volleyball team, Friends of Rachel, Mini-thon, Fem club and the boys’ volleyball team manager. Miranda plans to attend Pensacola State College in the fall, to pursue a degree in Nursing specializing in dermatology.

William, a member of First Capital Federal Credit Union, is a senior at West York Area High School where he is the salutatorian of his grade and has been on distinguished honor roll all years of high school. William is the Vice President of Student Council, fundraiser chair of the National Honor Society chapter, and a member of the Model UN team. William is also the captain of the baseball team and a member of the golf team. William plans to attend Lebanon Valley College in the fall, to become an actuary.

"The York Chapter of Credit Unions is honored to support our Credit Union members through these scholarships," said Tara Minetos, Chapter President. "These students represent the future, and we’re excited to watch them thrive and succeed."

The meeting also featured a panel discussion on the importance of financial literacy and how best to market to Gen Z and Gen Alpha. The night wrapped up with a presentation from Natasha Kukorlo, Executive Director of the York Habitat for Humanity and how Habitat is changing the York community; one family, one home at a time.
