Third annual Marine Credit Union Foundation Golf Outing raises more than $80,000

LA CROSSE, WI (August 8, 2017) — The third annual Marine Credit Union (MCU) Foundation Golf Outing raised more than $80,000 for charitable causes and financial literacy initiatives in our community. More than 140 golfers participated at the Golf Course at Cedar Creek Country Club in Onalaska, Wis. Almost 40 company sponsors supported the event, including major event sponsors MOKA, Allied Solutions, Fowler and Hammer, NextGen and Staples.

Since the Foundation was created in January 2014:

  • Almost $436,000 has been donated to more than 550 charitable causes in 35 counties across Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa.
  • Marine employees have donated more than $202,000.
  • Marine members have donated more than $145,000.

Three in four Marine employees contribute to the Foundation through an automatic payroll deduction. Marine employees are on pace to donate nearly $80,000 in 2017 alone. The credit union matches each employee donation – for every dollar an individual donates, Marine donates two. Watch this video to learn more about the MCU Foundation.

“Our employees are incredibly dedicated to the betterment of their communities, both through the volunteer hours and the dollars they give,” said Shawn Hanson, CEO. “By investing a dollar in the MCU Foundation, which Marine matches 2:1, employees triple their giving power to the causes that matter most to them.”

In addition to funding charitable causes in the communities Marine serves, the company also plans to commit a portion of the monies raised by the Foundation toward increasing financial literacy and housing access for underserved individuals or those with past financial challenges.

New Executive Director Appointment

To help evolve and grow the MCU Foundation, Liz Popp, Marine’s Director of Business Development, has been named Executive Director. Popp will oversee the long-range strategy and program management of the Foundation, while continuing her role as Director of Business Development. She joined Marine in 2015 as Marketing Manager and was promoted to Director of Business Development in 2016.
