Despite the extreme heat of last week, approximately three thousand concert-goers attended Irish Night at Pennypack Park. Sponsored by Freedom Credit Union for the sixth consecutive year, the concert featured performances from two North Philadelphia-based bands, Jamison Celtic Rock and Bogside Rogues. The Bogside Rogues opened the show with traditional Irish music, while Jamison Celtic Rock played a fusion of traditional Irish music, rock, reggae, and dance music.

According to Jamison Celtic Rock band member, Frank Daly, the show was a success: “We are Northeast Philly natives – that’s why the show was so much fun. It was a highlight of the summer for us.”

The Pennypack Park Festival board president, Glenn McCurdy, says the summer-long series is one of the top music festivials in the Philadelphia area due, in-part, to sponsors like Freedom. Local businesses and organizations sponsorships help to fund the concert series, improve Pennypack Park and fund performing arts scholarships for local students. All performances are free to the public and feature local acts, including many tribute bands and jazz ensembles.
