TMG Marketing Director Named to American Marketing Association Judges Panel

(Des Moines, Iowa – October 4, 2012) – Georgann Smith, director of marketing and communications for The Members Group (TMG) and past president of the Iowa chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA Iowa), recently joined peers as a judge for the American Marketing Association (AMA) international Chapter Excellence Awards competition.

The AMA’s annual Chapter Excellence Awards program highlights exceptional performance among the organization’s 77 professional chapters across the U.S. and Canada.

Smith has been a member of AMA since 2003 and served on the AMA Iowa board for seven years, including the 2010-11 program year, during which she served as chapter president. She has been on the receiving end of a Chapter Excellence Award in the past, earning Outstanding Achievement in Member Excellence and a Special Merit for Programs for the 2010-11 AMA Iowa program year.

Under Smith’s leadership, AMA Iowa introduced two new programs that year, including an Agency Crawl and a summer golf outing. In addition, the board of directors offered AMA Iowa members new opportunities to give back to their local community by infusing a charitable focus for the year. Smith’s strategic focus on sponsors allowed the chapter to earn more than $90,000 in in-kind and cash gifts, representing a nearly 130-percent year-over-year increase. Communications efforts improved, as well, with the development and execution of the chapter’s first-ever social media plan.

As TMG’s director of marketing and communication, Smith is responsible for providing strategic marketing direction and developing integrated marketing and communications programs that establish TMG as the leading provider of innovative payment solutions.

Prior to joining TMG in 2007, Smith served as vice president of marketing for, the leading online job board for HVAC, plumbing and electrical professionals during 2006. She came to from, the leading job board for technology professionals. At, Smith managed customer acquisition marketing initiatives. In addition, Smith has driven strategy and created marketing programs in a variety of other industries, including energy services, economic development and agricultural products.

She is a graduate of Washburn University with a bachelor’s in degree in communications and public relations.
