Truliant President Todd Hall named CEO of credit union

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (January 17, 2020) — Truliant Federal Credit Union announced today that its President Todd Hall assumed the additional role of Chief Executive Officer on Jan. 1, 2020.

Hall has held senior management posts with Truliant since joining the credit union in 2012 as Chief Operating Officer. He was named President in 2018, replacing Marc Schaefer, who had served as Truliant’s president and CEO since 1995. Through the planned succession, Schaefer retired on Dec. 31, 2019.

Hall is now responsible for full strategic leadership of the credit union with the purpose of improving member lives.

James T. Flythe Jr., chairman of Truliant’s Board of Directors, said, “We are pleased to have Todd take on this role. In his first two years as President, he has shown a deep understanding of our member-first philosophy and demonstrated exceptional leadership. Under his direction, Truliant has achieved outstanding progress by executing well-conceived plans for growth and development. Todd hit the ground running when he joined Truliant and has a proven track record of success. He is well-respected within our organization and industry. Truliant’s Board looks forward to continuing to work with him.”

Hall’s tenure has been marked by expansion and diversification to better meet member needs. He provided key leadership for a branch expansion that resulted in nine new locations in the Charlotte Metro region and an additional four in the Piedmont Triad for a total of 32 branches.

Additionally, in the last year, Truliant added two regional commercial lending offices, redeveloped its mortgage program, and debuted long-term plans to expand its headquarters campus in Winston-Salem. The credit union also plans to open a dedicated off-site training, mortgage and innovation facility named Truliant Academy in the first-half of 2020.

Hall has worked toward greater innovation and transformative technology growth at Truliant. He helped push for the creation of a digital innovation team, and the introduction of a better online and mobile application experience for loans and account opening. Hall has been integral to streamlining Truliant’s processes and systems to simplify and enhance the member experience at its branches, call center and digital channels.

Hall has also advanced increased community and charitable involvement by the credit union, substantially increasing its giving in member-owner communities. Among other efforts, Hall was instrumental in helping create Truliant’s Financial Education grants fund, establishing a $15 minimum hourly wage, and in launching the credit union’s initiative to offer 16 hours of paid volunteer time for full-time employees.

An advocate of strengthening employee engagement, in 2019, Forbes Magazine named Truliant the No. 17 Best Employer in North Carolina, edging out several larger companies. Multiple times during his tenure, Truliant has been named a Best Places to Work award winner by Triad Business Journal.

“As I look at the credit union landscape in 2020 and beyond, Truliant is superbly positioned to serve our burgeoning membership and to be a key citizen in the communities we serve in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia,” Hall said. “Driven by our vision for the future, Truliant has unlimited potential to create greater benefits for our more than 250,000 member-owners and member businesses. I am honored to lead this organization and for the opportunity to provide all of our 700 employees with an enjoyable place to work where they feel valued, empowered, and rewarded for all that they do.”

Truliant’s Chairman Flythe said: “Todd’s broad skill set and talents will serve Truliant well going forward as we continue our mission of always doing what is best for our members. Our leadership teams have blossomed and grown under Todd’s guidance as we continue to develop the foundation for our future growth.”

“We’ve experienced remarkable growth and successfully reached out to existing and new member households to improve their lives while adding technology and access channels that consumers are demanding,” he added.

Prior to joining Truliant, Hall served in senior and executive roles for several large southeastern financial institutions with oversight and responsibility for major areas across the organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Business Administration from the executive program at Wake Forest University.

Hall currently serves on the board of directors of the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce, Winston-Salem Business Inc., and the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. He is also a member of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions Legislative Committee, the Credit Union National Association Consumer Protection Subcommittee, and the Carolinas Credit Union League Government Affairs Committee. Hall also serves on the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter Advisory Board.

Todd Hall.
