Truliant’s Shipko earns prestigious credit union certification

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (May 26, 2017) — Renee Shipko, community engagement liaison for Truliant Federal Credit Union, recently completed the National Credit Union Foundation’s certification for the role of Credit Union Development Educator (CUDE).

Shipko is the first Truliant employee to receive the prestigious CUDE certification, and is one of only 87 CUDEs in the Carolinas. The Development Educator Training program teaches participants about cooperative principles, credit union philosophy and international development issues.

Skills are honed in problem solving, development of outreach initiatives, technical assistance, team building and creating public presentations.

“It is an honor to become a peer to the many individuals who hold this certification,” Shipko said. “This training will benefit our membership as we promote Truliant’s distinct advantages in the competitive financial services market and share the credit union message with local, regional and national audiences.”

Shipko was among 44 individuals who were accepted by the National Credit Union Foundation to participate in the intensive Credit Union Development Training. She joins a group of 1,600+ individuals across America and thirty-five other countries. The training was held at the Lowell Center in Madison, Wisconsin.

She returns to Truliant with knowledge and strategies gleaned from this program incorporating group exercises, field trips and discussions with experienced credit union speakers. Working with a team, she was required to complete projects and present case study solutions for critical issues such as financial stability among young adults and families, predatory lending, and homelessness in the United States.

Shipko was named as Truliant’s Community Engagement Liaison in June 2014 and has worked to advance Truliant’s mission through financial literacy education and community outreach. Previously she served in development, marketing and public relations leadership roles for Old Salem Museums and Gardens, ABC of N.C. Child Development Center, and Hospice of Davidson County.
