WeStreet Ice Center to open 2023
The two-story, state-of-the-art ice center will serve as the practice facility and offices for the Tulsa Oilers ice hockey team and will be open to the public for skating and youth sporting tournaments and exhibitions.
"We’re thrilled to support the Tulsa Oilers through the sponsorship of the new ice center. While it will be an excellent practice facility for our beloved local ice hockey team, the ice center will also serve as a hub for youth sports, community events, national tournaments, and will be a driver of economic development for our city,” said Greg Gallant, president and CEO of WeStreet Credit Union. “This is just the beginning of a fruitful partnership with the Tulsa Oilers, one that reflects WeStreet’s community-first mindset and dedication to enriching the lives of our neighbors.”
The new ice center will provide opportunities previously unavailable at this scale in Tulsa, including figure skating, youth ice hockey, broomball, curling and other sports. The size and scope of the facility will create a significant economic impact, as it will encourage visitors from out-of-state to travel to Tulsa for tournaments, events and exhibitions. The Tulsa Oilers project an annual attendance of over 500,000 people.
“We began this project with the community in mind,” said Andy Scurto, owner of the Tulsa Oilers. “We’re ecstatic about the new offices and practice space for our team, but more than anything, we’re motivated by the opportunity to make hockey and ice sports more accessible for our fans and kids in the region. Our new partnership with WeStreet helps make this possible.”
The 140,000 square-foot facility will include an in-house pro shop, concessions, a full-service bar and restaurant, virtual gaming, meeting areas for events and celebrations, and a WeStreet Credit Union ATM.
“This undertaking will certainly be one of the coolest developments our city has seen on the sports front this decade, contributing to the region's status as a sports destination,” said Renee McKenney, senior vice president of tourism for the Tulsa Regional Chamber and president of Tulsa Regional Tourism. “Its Midtown location will allow for driving commerce to adjacent businesses, contributing to increased levels of economic impact to portions of Tulsa south of the downtown area. Our team at Tulsa Regional Tourism and the Tulsa Sports Commission is excited to promote this venue’s ability to host large-scale tournaments for youth and amateur ice sporting events.”
