Two Connexus Credit Union ‘young professionals’ selected to Crash the GAC

WAUSAU, WI (January 6, 2016) — Connexus Credit Union is pleased to announce that Ashley Weinke and Amanda Bardonner have been selected to attend Crash the GAC (Government Action Council) by The Cooperative Trust and Credit Union National Association as representatives of the WI Credit Union League.

Ashley Weinke, Deposit Operations Manager at Connexus, commented on the opportunity, “One area that really resonates with me is advocacy for credit union legislation. As a Young Professional, crashing the Government Affairs Conference will be an amazing opportunity to see first-hand the importance of political involvement and the impact industry leaders can make to bolster an environment that promotes strong credit unions like Connexus.”

Crash the GAC, presented by The Cooperative Trust and CUNA, will bring young credit union professionals together, running a tailored program alongside the main event and allowing for mentor sessions with key individuals with experience in the National Credit Union Foundation, Credit Union National Association, Filene Research Institute and CUNA Mutual Group. All Crashers receive a complimentary registration from the Credit Union National Association.

“I’m honored to join 53 other Young Professionals to participate in GAC and advocate for credit union legislation. This is also a great opportunity to network with, and learn from, industry leaders. This four day event provides unique mentorship moments and countless ways to dive deeper into the credit union movement – I’m excited to soak up as much information as possible!” Amanda Bardonner, Connexus’ Director of Product Development, stated about being selected.

Connexus President and CEO, J. David Christenson, strongly supports the development of Connexus’ Young Professionals group. Christenson says, “It’s critical to involve our YP’s in the credit union movement – advocacy is an important part of that. It would be fantastic to get 50 YP’s from each state to attend the GAC. Think of the message it would send to our governmental leaders if 2,500 millennials came to Capitol Hill! It’s my role as CEO to help mentor and engage these YP’s, positioning them for success when it’s their turn to lead, which has already started.”

“The commitment from both CUNA and The Cooperative Trust to the Crash the GAC program says a great deal about the importance of young adults in the credit union system” says James Marshall, Manager of The Cooperative Trust, “looking at the advocacy issues that face credit unions early in one’s career helps set our young professionals up with the right knowledge to help support their credit unions as they become our CEO’s of the future. With a reach across the whole of the United States, Crash the GAC brings a diverse group of future leaders to the forefront of credit unions at the industry’s premier event.”
