U.S. Representative Clay Higgins to Governor John Edwards: CU employees are ‘Essential’, earned vaccine priority

HARAHAN, LA (March 3, 2021)

In a letter sent to Louisiana Governor John Bell Edwards earlier today, U.S. Representative Clay Higgins (3rd Congressional District) called for credit union and other financial services employees to be prioritized in COVID-19 vaccinations. “It is critical that the financial workforce can safely get back to work. Financial stability and the re-opening of our economy starts with ensuring that front-line workers can get a vaccine. As banks, credit union, and financial service personnel serve the public every day, their services should be recognized as a priority,” Higgins stated.

The Louisiana Credit Union League (LCUL), the state trade association, has been working with longtime lobbyist Adams & Reese, LLC to advocate for regulatory relief and flexibility for credit unions as the industry worked tirelessly to support members facing financial ramifications due to COVID-19.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, credit unions have been following directives and recommendations from Governor Edwards, the Louisiana Department of Health and the CDC to ensure that the financial industry maintains the highest level of safety for respective employees and the 1.2 millions members in Louisiana. We are proud of our 4,000+ dedicated employees who have stepped up to this challenge and thank Representative Higgins for recognizing their financial relief efforts,” commented Bob Gallman, LCUL President/CEO

Rep. Higgins reiterated his credit union support during a virtual ‘Hike the Hill’ visit with more than fifty credit union professionals and volunteers around the state. Louisiana credit union advocates are meeting virtually with lawmakers in Washington, D.C. this week in conjunction with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC).
