United Federal Credit Union mourns passing of John H. Marean, Founder of Predecessor Credit Union in Nevada
ST. JOSEPH, MI (September 23, 2015) — It is with tremendous sadness that United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) reports the passing of John Herbert Marean, founder of Reno Teacher’s Federal Credit Union.
Marean was a teacher at Reno High School in 1949 when he and handful of fellow educators formed the credit union, which became Clear Star Credit Union before joining UFCU in 2009.
“As a founding member of Reno Teachers Federal Credit Union, John helped set the path that led to the success we enjoy today as United Federal Credit Union,” said Nevada Region Vice President Danny DeLaRosa. “Today, more than 18,500 UFCU members in Nevada are benefiting from the foresight John exhibited as a young teacher who recognized the value of a credit union for his fellow educators.”
Marean is survived by his wife, Rosalind, daughter Alona, and son David along with their spouses and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice, his second wife, Sally.
