United Federal Credit Union officials reveal record-breaking event for Best. Week. Ever.

ST. JOSEPH, MI (May 15, 2018) — Venues Parks & Arts (VPA) and United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) introduced new elements of Best. Week. Ever. (BWE) that focus on community-building within our city. Speakers included VPA Executive Director Aaron Perri, VPA Design & Media Specialist Danica Kulemeka, and United Federal Credit Union Indiana Market Vice President, Alysa Snell.

UFCU invited the City of South Bend to get to know one another by coming together and beating a Guinness World Record. UFCU hopes to introduce itself in record-breaking fashion by setting the world record for most people waving a foam hand at the same time in one location.

This will occur on Tuesday, May 29 at John Adams High School Track & Field, located at 808 Twyckenham Drive. Registration/check-in will be from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. (EDT), with the record breaking taking place after 8 p.m. (EDT). Guinness representatives will be on site on May 29 to officiate the record breaking. To participate, pre-register here or visit unitedfcu.com/BWE2018 to learn more.

“Best. Week. Ever. is all about celebrating the best of who we are as a community and United Federal Credit Union feels lucky to be a part of that. We are excited to invite our South Bend neighbors, family and friends to break a world record with us during our Best. Intro. Ever,” said Snell, “We hope everyone will come out, have some fun, and see just how passionate we are about bringing the United Federal Credit Union experience to South Bend.”

VPA also announced the Best. Week. Ever. Community Art Project. This project provides the opportunity for individuals to contribute photos to a digital mosaic that will be on display during BWE. The digital mosaic is a community-centered, interactive art piece that creates artwork from photos posted on social media with specific hashtags. Attendees will be able to post a photo with the #bwe2018 hashtag and see the photo displayed on a large LED screen and placed into a mosaic image. The final image will consist of thousands of photos from BWE attendees.

“The digital mosaic is a representation of how South Bend thrives when everyone comes together and works toward a common goal. Each image represents individual resident, and when all the pieces are put together they make something unique and inspiring,” said Kulemeka.

In addition, VPA discussed other unifying activities during BWE:

  • Free East Race rafting Friday, June 1st – Sunday, June 3rd
  • Riverlights Music Festival, which brings 30+ bands together, offers free admission
    for the 1st time
  • Edge Adventure course tickets for only $10 for Sunday, June 3rd
  • A community picnic during Adventure Day in Rum Village on Sunday, June 3rd
  • The best fireworks show ever on Friday, June 1st

To illustrate the concept of unity in South Bend, VPA brought together various groups of people who don’t normally go together and put them in a raft down the East Race. Rafters included students and Principal Seitz from Adams High School and Wonder Woman & Black Panther.

“Best. Week. Ever. welcomes everyone – residents and visitors alike – to come together all week and truly embrace our city’s culture,” said Perri.
