United Heritage CU recently participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas 2010 Back to School Bash and School Supply Drive. For two weeks, United Heritage CU staff collected school supplies ranging from pencils, markers, folders, crayons and backpacks to donate to the 150 ‘littles’ in the Big Brother Big Sister of Central Texas mentoring program.

The supply drive is held annually in support of the ‘littles’ (ages 9-14) that are mentored in the Big Brothers Big Sister program. This year, the organization asked for various donors to hold school supply collection drives at their workplaces, churches or service organizations in support of getting the students ready for the school year. On Sunday, August 15, 2010 from 2 p.m – 4 p.m., students and their mentors are invited to come and pick up their school supplies from three area FREEB!RDS restaurant locations.

To show their support, United Heritage CU staff created an internal donation center where more than 150 Credit Union employees were able to donate one or more of the requested items from the school supply drive list. Daily, enthusiastic team members placed much needed supplies such as rulers, notebooks, scissors, supply boxes and more into the beautifully decorated donation boxes in hopes it would give a deserving child a much needed boost to the coming school year.

Gratitude for the Credit Union’s participation was felt not only by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas but by the children and their families that depend on outstanding organizations like BBBS that lend support in their time of need. United Heritage CU’s efforts were so impressive, BBBS took to their Facebook fan page expressing their appreciation and posted pictures of the beautifully decorated and overflowing donation boxes.

The entire United Heritage CU staff was honored to be a part of such an amazing and worthwhile cause and wish all of the ‘littles’ in the program a successful 2010-2011 school year.
