Unitus Community Credit Union Provides Parent Care Packages for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

PORTLAND, OR — Unitus employees had a special opportunity to head up the hill to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to assemble and deliver care packages for parents who have to stay unexpectedly in the hospital with a sick child.

Each care package included basic toiletries and convenience items such as shampoo, lotion, deodorant, disposable razor, notepad, pen, $5 Starbucks gift cards, etc.

Toothbrushes and toothpaste were generously donated by Dr. Hyder of Dental Images in McMinnville, OR.

Employees also created decorative note cards to include in each package that had inspiring messages like: Stay Strong, You’re Brave, Thinking of You, Sending You Smiles, etc. to hang on their child’s room message board.

“Most often these families arrive unprepared for an overnight hospital stay.” said Aimee Berg, community marketing coordinator, Unitus Community Credit Union. “We just hope these small items can help make a difficult time a little easier by giving families a chance to focus on their child those first hours or days without worrying about daily essentials.”

This random act is one of many that will continue throughout 2012 as Unitus gives back to partner schools and non-profit community partners in celebration of their 75th anniversary.
