Universal 1 Credit Union (U1) members, Eva Johnson-Woods of Trotwood-Madison High School, and Addilyn Slinker of Beavercreek High School, were each awarded this year’s Glen R Kershner Memorial Scholarship of $1,000.00. The 2025 graduates have demonstrated outstanding leadership, academic success, and community involvement, paving the way for their future pursuits in law and biomedical engineering at prestigious universities.
Eva will be attending Bowling Green State University, where she plans to major in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business. After earning her bachelor’s degree, Eva intends to pursue her Juris Doctor (J.D.) at the University of Dayton School of Law, with the goal of becoming an attorney specializing in medical malpractice. She aspires to one day establish her own law firm, drawing on the skills and knowledge gained throughout her academic journey.
During her time at Trotwood-Madison High School, Eva demonstrated strong leadership and community involvement. She actively participated in the Allyship Leadership and Life Skills Club and volunteered with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Her school involvement was equally impressive, including membership in Future Farmers of America, the National Honor Society, Trotwood Police Explorers, the Art Club, and the Black History Program.
Addilyn plans on attending Hope College majoring in biomedical engineering on a premedical track. Inspired by her hands-on curiosity and a transformative internship in orthopedics, she hopes to impact the medical field by developing innovative technologies such as prosthetics, implants, and medical imaging tools. Her ultimate goal is to either pursue a career in biomedical engineering or become an orthopedic surgeon, blending her passion for problem-solving with her desire to help others.
During her time at Beavercreek High School, Addilyn has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and service—excelling in the arts through color guard and choir, mentoring peers as a section lead and student cabinet president, volunteering in her community and at a local hospital, and continuously striving to uplift and inspire those around her.
U1 established its scholarship program in 2004 to support high school student members pursuing post-secondary education at accredited colleges. Following the passing of Glen R Kershner in 2011, the program was renamed in his honor. Mr. Kershner was a beloved friend, mentor, and colleague whose own journey began with a scholarship that inspired a passionate 44-year career. His enduring legacy includes significant contributions to youth financial literacy, school outreach, and scholarship initiatives. Each year, U1 proudly honors Glen’s memory by awarding this scholarship to dedicated students committed to furthering their education.
U1 proudly congratulates Eva and Addilyn on their outstanding achievements and wishes them continued success in all their future endeavors
