Veridian Credit Union opens today in Papillion

WATERLOO, IA (May 2, 2017) — Today is opening day for Veridian Credit Union’s new branch in Papillion, Nebraska. The new construction at 10324 S. 71st Ter. is Veridian’s third of 10 to 15 branches planned for the greater Omaha area over the next 10 years. The Waterloo, Iowa-based credit union opened in Council Bluffs last spring, then opened its first branch outside of Iowa on West Maple Road in Omaha last December.

“We know there’s relatively low awareness of credit unions here in Nebraska,” said Cathy Alm, Veridian’s Papillion, “so we’re excited to introduce ourselves.”

As market president, Jay Ferris is overseeing that introduction. “Veridian is a community credit union. That means we offer financial services from a cooperative business structure. We’re not-for-profit and member-owned,” Ferris said. “The greatest misconception is around who can become a member. Veridian membership is open to anyone in our geographic field of membership, including several eastern Nebraska counties.”

The new 5,104-square-foot branch closely mirrors Veridian’s branch on West Maple Road, including mortgage and commercial lending offices, biometric access to safe deposit boxes and a family-sized office to accommodate members with young children during longer visits. The exterior offers an ATM in one of three drive-up lanes. “We’re a full-service financial institution,” says Ferris. “Instead of being a customer, you’re a member and an owner here. That may seem like a small difference, but when earnings are returned to you through better rates and lower fees, it can make a big difference on your pocketbook.” Plans for more Veridian branches in the Omaha metro are already underway.
