Wally Murray to continue as Nevada Credit Union League Board Chairman
ONTARIO, CA (November 17, 2015) — Wally Murray—president and CEO of Greater Nevada Credit Union in Carson City, NV—was named board chairman of the Nevada Credit Union League during its recent Annual Meeting and Convention held at the JW Marriott Desert Springs in Palm Desert. He served as chairman during the 2014-2015 year as well.
Elected as vice chairman was Eric Estes, president and CEO of Boulder Dam Credit Union in Boulder City, NV. Rounding out the executive committee are secretary/treasurer Dennis Flannigan, president and CEO of Great Basin Federal Credit Union in Reno, NV; Rick Schmidt, president and CEO of WestStar Credit Union in Las Vegas, NV; and Matt Kershaw, president and CEO of Clark County Credit Union in Las Vegas, NV.
Murray has been president and CEO of Greater Nevada Credit Union since 2000, and has spent more than 26 years in a leadership capacity with that institution, the largest based in northern Nevada. Since 2005 he has also concurrently served as the CEO of the credit union’s wholly owned home lending subsidiary, Greater Nevada Mortgage.
During his credit union career, Murray has also volunteered in a variety of advocacy roles at both the state and national level. Those include serving as the Chairman of the Nevada Credit Union League in 2009 and 2010. He also testified in front of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs in 2015, was appointed in 2014 to the National Credit Union Administration’s (NCUA) Industry Panel on its Proposed Risk Based Capital regulation, has served on the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Subcommittee on Examinations and Supervision since 2013, and was a past member of the Governor’s Credit Union Advisory Council for the state of Nevada. In addition, he has twice been recognized as Nevada’s Credit Union Advocate of the Year.
Murray is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting, and of Yuba College, Marysville, CA, where he received an Associates of Science degree. He also has a Certified Public Accountant designation from the state of Texas. He is a 1995 honors graduate of Western CUNA Management School, and has successfully completed the Credit Union Executive Development Program at Stanford University, and the Advanced Leadership Institute at Harvard Business School.
