Walt Laskos departs CCUA, forms private consultancy

MALBOROUGH, MA (August 17, 2023) — Longtime veteran credit union communications and PR executive Walt Laskos has announced his retirement and the start of his own private consultancy practice. For the past nine years he has served as chief communications officer at the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) in Marlborough, Mass.

A credit union development educator whose portfolio includes a variety of innovative programs like Operation Best Wishes during the Iraq War, a series of radio and cable TV programs—Better Banking—focused on financial education, and panel discussions by credit union and community leaders offering guidance to seniors on ways to stay safe from financial scams, Laskos began his credit union career as public relations director at Western Corporate Federal Credit Union (WesCorp) in 2000.

In making the announcement, Laskos said, “My passion and belief in the values and principles espoused by credit unions—providing financial literacy, helping members, and serving the underserved—will always inspire and motivate me to work for their ongoing success. Retirement for me is simply transitioning to a consulting role where I can continue to serve as an innovator, communicator, and contributor to the growth of all credit unions.”

In his new practice, Laskos said he will direct his services to elder financial fraud prevention and the application of today’s latest media technologies such as the use of augmented reality for member engagement, video streaming annual meetings and conferences, and Internet media tours as a way to foster free news coverage to spread the credit union message.
