Win a scholarship to Michigan Tech’s Summer Youth Programs at the Bright Futures Fair

Houghton, MI (April 1, 2026) |

Local high school students will have the opportunity to win a scholarship to Michigan Technological University’s Summer Youth Programs by attending the upcoming Bright Futures Fair on April 8 at the Hancock Community Hub. The free event brings together hands-on learning, academic support, and real-world experiences designed to help students plan for their future.

The first-ever Bright Futures Fair will be hosted by Breakwater Federal Credit Union in partnership with Michigan Tech’s GEAR UP and TRIO Pre-College Programs. The open-house style fair is open to all Copper Country Intermediate School District high school students and their families, and will include entrepreneurship simulation, tutoring support, study skills resources, and interactive activities for all ages.

Students who complete Breakwater’s Entrepreneurship Simulation will be eligible to win a scholarship to attend a Summer Youth Program of their choice at Michigan Tech this summer.

Financial resources will be available for the whole family, and organizers encourage attendees to stop by, explore at their own pace, and take advantage of the many opportunities available throughout the evening. Younger siblings are welcome and will have activities to enjoy as well.

Students can also take advantage of additional academic support opportunities throughout the evening. Tech Tutors will offer a drop-in tutoring station where students can receive help with schoolwork, while the TRIO Study Skills Table will provide practical tips on organization, time management, and effective study habits to support long-term academic success.

The Bright Futures Fair highlights the power of collaboration between local schools, community organizations, and higher education partners to support student success. By combining hands-on learning, academic resources, and the opportunity to earn a Michigan Tech Summer Youth Programs scholarship, the event is designed to inspire students to explore their potential and take meaningful steps toward their future. Students and families are encouraged to attend, get involved, and experience all that the evening has to offer.

This is an open-house style event, so attendees are encouraged to stop by anytime between 6 and 8 PM at the Hancock Community Hub gymnasium.
