On the heels of a of its biggest fundraising year in nearly a decade— Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions thanked its generous supporters in style Sunday night at the 2020 Champion Celebration in Washington, D.C.
Held in conjunction with Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), the event brought more than 400 people to the Italian Embassy to celebrate the growth and sustainability of the international credit union movement.
“We are so pleased to honor our Champions, who helped us raise over $2 million across all Worldwide Foundation programs in 2019—with $840,972 of that total going to our Priority Fund. The Priority Fund supports World Council of Credit Unions in its efforts to acquire new credit union development projects and extend its existing projects around the world,” said Worldwide Foundation Executive Director Mike Reuter.
World Council is currently implementing credit union development projects in Haiti, Ukraine, Kenya, Burkina Faso, The Philippines and Indonesia—and working to build on that success by adding more projects in 2020.
“There is no question that supporting World Council’s development work is an important and essential part of improving people’s lives through access to affordable, reliable and sustainable financial services,” said Worldwide Foundation Board Chair and SchoolsFirst Credit Union President/CEO Bill Cheney.
The Worldwide Foundation is shooting even higher for its Priority Fund this year—with a goal of raising $975,000 in 2020.
